Best Restaurants Open for Christmas Dinner this year in Scranton – 2024

Ipanema is back and better than ever! If you have been here before, you won’t believe it’s the same restaurant once you enter the dining room. The renovation is impressive! The new additions to the boardwalk bar (buffet) were excellent. All of the meats were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The staff is so welcoming and dedicated to their service. You better come hungry because you must try everything! Already thinking about my next visit.

My bf took me here as I've never been, an amazing decision! All the food was really good, especially the steaks and cheese encrusted pork. We got a pitcher of sangria to share and it was delicious, even let us take what we couldn't drink home! We also had their traditional Brazilian cocktail with passion fruit, it was alright, we weren't fans of how the citrus tasted with all the meats. We got the Brazilian cheese cake on a whim and it was so creamy, we took it to go because we couldn't finish but it didnt make it home haha. The staff is also super nice, very respectful. We talked to the manager Douglas and he was very kind, gave us our dessert on the house! Even the newest member of staff Jake had a good understanding of our questions and was very personable. We hope to come back again and bring more family here!

Wow. Comparing my most previous experience with Ipanema to my most recent... I was simply blown away. The food was fantastic. The ambiance they create is next level, and the service was out of this world. Since their most recent renovations it's as if the entire staff and food got a rework. I was truly delighted by the experience and absolutely reccomend giving it another try if you had a poor experience before. Will definitely be back.

HOLY COW THIS WAS AMAZING! I’ve heard all about waffle house from the memes but holy this food and service was amazing. My family got their entire meal which was huge, in 5 MINUTES! And the food, amazing! Mom said the biscuits were perfect and I thought the waffles were the best since they were the first I ever had. I would have birthday parties here for years on end. 10/10.

I love breakfast but one thing I can’t stand is burnt bacon. The cooks need to take time & make the food with more love, you ever know who’s walking in for the first time so keep that in mind. Food was edible but personally the waffles houses down South are the best in my opinion

We’ve always wanted to try Waffle House so when we visited Pennsylvania we had to try it! When we came here there was a lot of parking available in front which was great! The food was good and cheap. It was prepared quickly as well. We tried the Texas Sausage Egg & Cheese Melt which was kinda greasy but still good. The place was pretty small and old looking. Our server was nice and friendly! We enjoyed eating breakfast here.

The way a restaurant should be! Awesome spot! The Office gift shop! Tons of great memorabilia on the walls. Waitress was great, all the employees seemed super happy to work there. Food was homemade and tasted great. Love the big cups of coffee too!

2 POUND LOBSTER TAIL!! What more needs to be said. We visited this place towards the end of summer and wish we hadn’t waited so long to visit. This place has an excellent deck for outdoor dining and the food was just amazing. If you are a lobster lover this is the place for you.

We went there because of the Office fame! However it turned out that we ate so many local and American dishes that changed my opinion of quality of American restaurants! Thank you all for keeping the tradition alive and letting new generations try and enjoy the homemade quality dishes! Highly recommend with “must go at least once in a lifetime “ we will be back for sure ! Owen was helpful and knowledgeable about the food !

The place was cute. Server was super nice. The food was great and you get a lot for the price. Very nice outdoor space. Cool, antique-y decor inide. I was disappointed in the beer selection but they have a full bar.

Food is locally sourced so the menu is always changing. The food was delicious. Our waiter Kevin was fantastic and he had some really great tattoos also. I loved the kind of open kitchen and also the atmosphere. We sat near the fireplace, it was really nice.

We attended the Harry Potter event. I can't say enough about it. It was absolutely wonderful. It actually felt like you were in Hogwarts. The staff were amazing. Everyone wss so nice and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious. We have already made plans to return. Thank you so much for an unforgettable everything. It was perfect !!!!

This is real deal Kosher deli food. Take is from a guy who has been to delis all over New York City. The Matzo ball soup us great and so is the pastrami. If it has formica countertops and Dr. Brown's Celery Soda. You know it is legit. You feel as if you are going back in time here. Helping preserve this food for future generations.

Great Jewish Delicatessen. Love the Tuna Melts and potato pancakes with apple sauce. I have had many selections and all the food is made fresh. Excellent dishes

Stopped in here on the way home from a road trip. Caught them near the end of their day so service was a little on the slow side, but really friendly. I got a pastrami Rueben and it was tender, and flavorful, with some tangy kraut on top. I loved the thinly sliced pastrami as well, it made sure there was no tough parts. This is a must stop if you like pastrami, I thought about it for hours after.

AV is my favorite restaurant in Scranton, hands-down. The food is consistently excellent, the cocktails are on point, and the atmosphere is lovely. Definitely get a reservation if you're planning to go on Friday or Saturday night! Even the bar seating fills up quickly on the weekend.

Octopus was very tender and delicious. The pork chop was a little tough. Everything is a little too salty. Maybe you can ask for less salt! The staff were super friendly and nice.

Perfect evening celebrating my birthday. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was cozy, as we were seated in a corner booth. The basil pineapple martini was spot on. Overall, truly an excellent experience.

Enjoyed my time here. Was a little rough when I arrived, and didn’t know where to sit or order, as they only had two folks working the floor - which I think is unfair to them, as once they acknowledged, and were able to tend to us, they were very pleasant and on it! The food was great! Really enjoyed the vegetarian options in the tacos, and the chicken sandwich was a hit (it was recommended)! You’ve your staple drafts and a respectable choice of spirits. Really casual vibe and the music was palatable. So, just to note: 1) there is additional seating in the back! 2) Perhaps better scheduling of staff, as the two lovely ladies that helped us were great - but overwhelmed. And it makes sense, the place was fairly full. Will return!

So this place is very clean with a relaxed atmosphere. Service is Johnny on the spot. Chicken orzo soup out of this world. Amazing jamacian jerk accompanied with gnomes hot sauce, .

My sister recommended we go here, as she is a local to the area. The establishment was very well decorated. The back yard area was awesome! The service was good. My only dislike was the wings. We got the smoked wings and they seemed very very dry. Highly disappointed. Maybe next time I will just try the regular wings. But on another note, I would definitely recommend the Mac and Cheese ! That was delicious! Overall, I’d say this place is great for dates or a casual night out for drinks. I probably wouldn’t take the whole family again and spend $200.00 plus. P.S.-make sure to you bring cash to this place. I wasn’t aware that there would be a 3% surcharge for paying the bank and or there merchant service fee for using a credit/debit card. Maybe I didn’t see the sign? But in any event, i don’t think it’s right as a consumer to pay an additional tax on a payment method an establishment chooses to accept. That in my opinion is ridiculous.

Literally the best quality food and best tasting of all ethnicities in the city. I would travel for miles and miles to eat here if I didn't live here. 10 out 10 hands down!! The service is even better. They made our sangria right there, fresh, chopped all the fruits and poured all the liquor & wine right in front of us. Do not miss out on the chance to experience the atmosphere, the service, and the food!!

Had dinner today at Chifa Peru, on our receipt our server name Orbea S not sure if really her name (long ponytail with baseball cap), she was nice and helpful! I asked our waitress about food and she was explained patiently and clearly. This place has Peruvian and Chinese food. If you’re looking the whole experience Peruvian food, this not the place for sure. But if you’re ok just to have pollo ala brasa, then yes. Their Peruvian menu is very limited. The arroz chaufa was pretty decent.. the seasoning they use here for me is not the same as Chinese fried rice. So I can live with that lol. Don’t get me wrong idea, I am an Asian but we came here not for Asian food. We have lots of that at the place where we live (2 hour away from Scranton) so we’re here specifically for Peruvian dish. The chicken is good, the green sauce not so great like other Peruvian we’ve been. For us more like green mayonnaise, there’s no spicy at all not even a tiny bit. When I asked other waiter for stronger sauce, she gave me Rocoto. That’s not green sauce what I’m talking about. But that’s about it, not much to complain about.

My mother took me here for the first time today. She comes often and kept raving about it. And now that I've been, I can also highly recommend!!! Sushi rolls are great and very fairly priced. Staff was friendly and wonderful. I can't wait to go back.

Very nice drink menu and we loved the atmosphere with arcade games and pinball! It's a very unique experience that you don't find often, so would highly recommend checking this place out.

Stopped here on a Sunday for lunch … we wanted to check this place out mostly for nostalgia purposes. They have tons of games, pinball, and old arcade games from our youth. I got the steak tacos which were pretty dry and flavorless and the arugula was old and slimy. My husband got the Mac and cheese burger which he really enjoyed. Our bartender was great and they had a huge beer/cocktail selection. This would most likely be just a beer stop for us next time but worth checking out to relive some childhood memories.

My friends and I had the best night here so much fun! Drinks were excellent my favorite is electric smurf and it was very crowded when we went but most of the games were open to play! Also, Angel is a very good bartender and is very helpful with menu recommendations! The games also have cup holders for your drink!

Catch 21 caught and hooked us as repeat customers! Outside ambiance was nice. Host Benny was gracious enough to accommodate our sudden reservation change from indoor to outdoor seating. Indoor looked nicely dim, comfortable and cozy. Server Jen was amazing through the whole dinner from start to finish and added to the list of reasons we’ll return and recommend to friends. Food ordered: burrata, crab bisque, chicken marsala, shrimp scampi and crème brûlée…accompanied by espresso martini and peach honey old fashioned. Could go on about each dish and how good everything is, but sum it up as you can easily tell there won’t be a single disappointing item on the menu. It’s obvious there are no shortcuts taken in the kitchen and they put the time in, using only the best ingredients to make all dishes pop with flavor. We can’t wait to return and try out more of the menu!

This restaurant is great! The staff goes over and beyond to make sure everything is great. The food is great! My husband loves the tuna and I can never decide. Too many favorites. If you’re in Scranton and are looking for great food and great service , Catch 21 is the place to go.

I had the caesar salad and the fresh sole at Catch 21 and it was DELICIOUS!! 10/10 would highly recommended this place to anyone. Everything on the menu is just as amazing as it looks and the atmosphere is truly stunning. If you are in the area and are looking for the perfect seafood or steak meal with a great ambiance, Catch 21 is the place to go!
